11 year anniversary since the DSP

Image
Today marks 11 years since I was on the DSP also known in Australia as the Disability Support Pension. I had been on this for a number of years until I started working for my current employer at Coles. This year marks 19 years being employed by them as well. If memory serves I had been on the DSP since I was around 16 / 17 and had forever been told I did not need to work many hours, but I didn't want to be stuck with centrelink payments as it was restrictive and hard to do anything. My goal had been to earn enough money that I could get off the DSP and that came 11 years ago when I started working 30+ hours for my employer and my income was stripping most of the DSP away when I declared my income once a fortnight. That was pretty much annoying. I wanted to work the max hours I could and by rights being on the DSP meant I couldn't. The government had told me I didn't need a job and could survive on the pension, but that isn't enough money to survive on at all not wit...

Living with no sense of smell

Image
There are times when, you have to wonder what life is like for other people who have their full senses when I am missing two of them. Something that would smell nice A week ago I had cleaned up a milk spill after I had touched a stationary object with my pallet causing the milk crates full of milk to topple over. I had used a machine that sucks the water off the ground. I never emptied the machine of its milky goodness.   The spill that started it all Three days later I was back at work and one of the cleaners comes up to me and wanted me to empty the machine that had sat unused since that fateful day. He knew it was me and wanted to make it my problem. He showed me the liquid that was now basically cottage cheese that was really curdled. We took it out the back to clean it out, while the cleaner stood outside the bin room gagging while I poured the lumpy mess out of the catcher and washed it out with warm water. All the while I was laughing as I could hear him gaggi...

G33K mobile issues of the year

The year 2025 seemed to be the year of the bike issues. I have a Can Am Spyder with three wheels so it can make life more interesting. From hitting things to needing new parts like a battery.   Some of the damage Around where the damage was, luckily missing more vital parts One of the issues I had with my bike was that one night I hit what looked to be a road coloured rock that went under my bike just before I entered the local highway on the Gold Coast. It was late at night and I was getting up to speed when I seen it at the last second. Under the bike it went and came out. I did stop, but decided to get home and sort it out later as I preferred to have issues after I get home. Turns out the rock had damaged right behind the radiator with the bash plate broken as well, making the bike lower when you go up driveways and speed bumps.   I had to get replacements for those and I was without the bike for nearly two weeks as I had taken it to my mechanic to have a loo...

Working up a storm

Image
The year 2025 has been an interesting year work wise so far, although the year is nearly ended and a whole brand new year is about to begin we shall see what is going to happen. Will things change, or will they stay the same?   Working retail is always a challenge especially in a supermarket. Add people going on holidays and then things can spiral, but not always in a good way. I will admit the several months leading up to the Christmas or Shoppergeddon rush was not an easy time either. I work in the fun part, which is the cold section otherwise known as dairy that includes frozen and milk.   We did have a weather event that decided to visit earlier in the year and it did cause some massive issues that included no power with powerlines down on both sides of the border. I went to work one morning just before the worst of cyclone Alfred hit. The power went off and while there were only two managers and two workers, the store manager decided to send us home. Th...

Welcome to middle age

Something that recently happened was when I needed new glasses, but I was actually unsure. For some time I had to take my glasses off to read small print, and at work that was becoming annoying when I had to read dates on products.   I had been thinking about finding out if I needed reading glasses as I had basically stopped reading physical books as the writing was blurred or swimming. I thought I was just tired, and I had the print side on my Kindle on the large size.   I enjoy reading, but the burred vision on the smaller print was annoying to the point I couldnt read Manga without glasses off. Anything with a 10 point font was hard to read and it was nearly 2 years with this issue.   When I did get tested as every 6 to 9 months I get an eye checked through an eye surgeon for an eye issue, which was a detaching membrane as they want to keep an eye on it to make sure it hasnt gotten worse (see what I did there). I mentioned my eye sight issue in regards to ...

Why B-rad?

Image
I thought writing a personal blog through Blogger would be a little better than what I had with Wordpress and there were times where Wordpress wouldnt work in Firefox for unknown reasons. I like the simpleness of Blogger and it seems to get more traffic with my other blogs than with Wordpress, unless that is the users fault.   I thought it would be a little more fun just calling myself B-rad, as a few people either call me that at work, or use my full name.   Since it is nearly the end of 2025, I had the idea that I could just start a whole new blog. I should write more blogs with my other pages especially family history and the locations I come across on my travels. Usually I blog about my travels except when I had a week off in Melbourne at the start of December. Just to see how I would go.   I do say 2025 has been an interesting year.
