Not all families are the same

I learnt early that people are not what they seem on the outside to the public who would think highly of the people. Its when you get to closed doors that you find just how not very nice people can be, and that includes how they treat those who are closest to them.   Over the years I have had people who thought I have plenty of money and was leading a privileged life due to my step grandparents, who owned a caravan park in Hastings Point in Northern NSW. People who I went to school with thought because I was ‘related’ to the owners, which must mean I was getting money off them. They were only related in name only as there were no blood ties.   The truth is there was no money that passed to me or even my sister. Because we were the ‘step’ grandkids, we were not even on their radar. I am pretty sure my sister and mum were despised and were looked down upon. I know they preferred the ex wife instead. They even tested mum in the hopes she would fail, and passed wi...

Life in a caravan in the 90s

Image
Something I hadnt really written about before was living in a caravan park during my early years that included the beginning of living in Australia. It was an interesting part of life between 1987 and 2002. We went from Cairns to Cabarita Beach and then onto Hastings Point.   For a little while we lived in Cairns after flying from New Zealand as it wasn’t where all the Kiwis went unlike the Gold Coast. I had health issues and had to move south so ended up crossing the border into NSW to end up in Cabarita Beach, or Bogangar even though it goes by both names. We started off down in the caravan park that was on Cudgen Lakes known as Cabarita Gardens. Its no longer a caravan park, and for a little while it was a resort too before it closed down. It was owned by a local family who were developers and they lived in Cabarita too. I do remember there were several floods there, but we were safe with the caravan. It was there that I learnt TVs and water do not mix when I tho...

Significant milestone to life

Image
I didn’t realise until talking to mum just after midnight that there were some significant milestones that had happened on the 13 th of September. The first happened in 2002, when we moved into the duplex from living in the caravan park in Hastings Point. That story however should be left for another blog as it is just as interesting on its own. Also 2002 was when I made my trip to Hamilton Island to work over Christmas and there were issues there too, which included a major eye operation in 2003.   The other significant Friday the 13 th of 2013 is when my step father, Bruce left to be sent into the wide world and my parents divorce. He loaded up hit tinny, a boat with things he though to be of equal value to the house. He wanted the dog as well, but she had been taken elsewhere. He had said mum can keep her, but he would go back on his word and would have likely taken her with him. At the time Jez was mum’s rock during the turbulent time.   There had been...
